Invizio by nido

Invizio is a logo created by Nav Iqbal for an IT and solutions company. Different from most boring IT logos, a modern and simple approach is used here. What makes this logo original and effective, apart from the simplicity, is the use of negative space creating a puzzle piece portraying invizio (invisible) The puzzle itself is also a metaphor for solution.

Hangie by Rudy Hurtado

Hangie, created by Rudy Hurtado, is a logo for a metal purse hanger. The logo is very effective because it targets the female audience very well with the use of magenta and with an elegant script type. The letter “e” acts as the hanger in the logo, the shape creates the feeling of a metal hanger.

Cafe Stag by Harry Panchal

Cafe Stag, logo created by Harry Panchal, uses curves as it main unity element between the type and the icon along with varying thick and thins, giving the impression of hot steamy coffee. The earthy tones compliment the design very well and helps achieve the feeling portrayed.

Rehab First by Siah Design

Rehab First, created by Siah Design, is a very strong, simple and effective logo. The negative space between the letter R and the number 1 symbolizes both health and faith that the company is trying to portray. The calming colors of the logo go well with theme and a bold type that contrasts with the colors.

Maschinenringe Deutschland by Helvetica Brands

Maschinenringe Deutchaland was designed by David Pache. The logo is for a German association that provides assistance to the farming community. The logo is very powerfull because it shows both the mechanical side of machinery and the organic side of farming with the gear/ sun image. The colors also work very well with the typography.

Artsy Bride by Renee Rist

Artsy Bride is a logo for a bridal blog. The logo was created by Renee Rist. It suits very well with the artists/brides audience and stands out from most bridal logos. The subtle colors work very well for what it’s intended. The typography and illustration work together to create a hand drawn artsy feeling making the logo very effective.

Business Airlines by All4leo

Business Arlines is a logo created by All for Leo. What makes this logo effective is the tie becoming part of the airplane’s smoke. Both of these elements portraying the idea of airline and business. The blue color used in the design is also very effective for the audience. The typography gives a sense of movement that goes very well with the icon and feeling of the logo in general.

Teletaxi by Type08

This logo was created by Type08 for Teletaxi, a Mexican advertising agency. This logo uses a very clever abstract mark. This mark can be seen as both, a headrest (from Taxi) and a television (from advertising). The custom bold typography plays its part very well combining perfectly with the mark. The contrasting black and yellow give the logo a strong feeling and portrays the idea of a taxi cab.

Della Lingerie by Bendito Studio

This logo created by Bendito studio achieves its goal by using feminine colors and curvy typography along with every element working great together. The colors also convey an innocent but playful feeling. A very strong mark is created with the two L’s forming a tongue in the cheek piece of lingerie.

French Property Exhibition by Firebrand

This very strong logo created by Firebrand plays with the idea of an open door created with one of the colors in the French flag demonstrating the idea of an open exhibition. It is a very simple yet effective and beautiful. The simple typography used contrasts very well with the powerful mark.

During the summer I was given the opportunity of teaching a class at CDIA (Center for Digital Imaging Arts). It wasn’t an easy decision to make because of time restrictions (work full time, freelance, family, creating my website, blogging) but I decided to take it regardless and I am very pleased with the results and benefits that I’ve been getting from it and I want to share them with the world.

Experience.

Teaching is a whole new different thing, it doesn’t matter how good of a designer, photographer, writer or anything you are, It doesn’t guarantee that you are going to be good at teaching from the start. that’s why putting emphasis on the mistakes you make while teaching the first classes will improve your methods and gain you experience.

The most important thing about making a mistake is to pinpoint it, correcting it, and not letting it take control of you.

Learn while teaching

You don’t realize, but when you start teaching there are some concepts not clear in your mind, and that’s normal, we don’t always need to know everything.

While teaching students usually have challenging questions about subjects that you might never thought of or be interested about, so that gives you the chance of researching, understanding and realizing how important this these things really are while giving you a different perspective of these things.

Fresh ideas

Although the principles, elements, and history of design are always the same, depending on the time that passes between your student era and your teaching era, technologies change greatly. Teaching is a great opportunity to fresh up with new ideas, trends and technologies.

Collaboration

Once you start freelancing, you might have a lot of overhead and you will always need another designer to work with. But sometimes it’s hard to find someone that you can account for and that understand your ideas, so what better than one of the people you trained yourself to collaborate with you?

Want to know more about other fields? what better than the other instructors?

The feeling of helping

Most of your students first designs are inspired by your help, what you show them, or the feedback you give them. So every goal they reach feels like one of your own.

You also have a big burden in your hands, their future success and interest depends also on how well you do your part.

Resume

Last, but not least, a teaching position in your resume looks great for companies and clients. It is a proof that you have some sense of organization, leadership and social skills. Your school superiors are also a great account for your abilities.

After exactly two months of thinking, designing, writing and procrastinating I finally finished the redesign of Dsauna Design. It’s interesting how you start with a design in mind and at the end it usually looks very different from what you started and you end up being inspired by your own design decisions, or just hating something you loved the day before.

The idea of redesigning my site has been in my mind for about 3 months before I started doing it. I had mixed feelings about the old design, it included a lot about me but I felt the design was outdated and the navigation wasn’t very usable.

One of the main problems with my old site was that it was created in flash. It was a great accomplishment for me to finish the website in pure AS3 (being a designer with programming limitations) but other than that the limitations of the website were bigger. I was harder to maintain, it took a while to load, and worst of all it wasn’t search engine friendly and I couldn’t get specific results of Google analytics. So at the end I went for a new look.

The new website, created now in WordPress, resembles my personality and style better and gives me the opportunity to uptade and create new content. Please stay tuned to see see articles, tutorials and interviews about design.
